Diagnosed With Sleep Apnea – Adult

As we get older, our pharyngeal airways begin to close in with excessive tissue when we are sleeping because our airway muscles become more flaccid.  Studies are now showing that Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy may prove effective in toning the airway muscles enough, allowing more air to pass through the airway freely.  Must be evaluated with a prescribed sleep study by your physician.

PUB MED ARTICLE: Myofunctional Therapy to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis; Sleep, 2015 May 1;38(5):669-75. doi: 10.5665/sleep.4652

This report shows that Myofunctional Therapy decreases apnea-hypopnea index by approximately 50%in adults and 62% in children. Lowest oxygen saturations, snoring, and sleepiness outcomes improve in adults.

Myofunctional Therapy is most effective in cases of mild to moderate sleep apnea.
